Ambrosia Maple Pull Apart Coffee Table

Like your favorite pull-apart monkey bread, this incredible Ambrosia Maple coffee table does just that; separates to create two independent tables. Keep them together as a functional, round table or bring a piece a little bit closer if the occasion calls. This is a one-of-a-kind piece that will be a stand out in any home or office.

When designing this piece I wanted to make sure the complete story was told. It’s amazing how little was holding this tree together (it was quite literally a massive void through 95% of the interior pith, that being filled with pine needles and other organic matter brought in by outsiders.) I decided to honor the tree’s story and allow it to continue to be separated where it had already broken apart, only adding inlays to strengthen the area that was still intact (It was solid, but as you can see, not much holding it together; again it’s amazing how little can hold something so massive together.) You can get lost for days counting the rings and discovering the tales told under this bark.

The base is a custom design engineered to maximize stability for the top, while attempting to create the illusion of disappearing into itself. The wood used in the base was from the same tree, just a different section that did not have nearly the same life as the lower half, resulting in a differing color tones.

Finished with a VOC free natural hard wax and oil application, this table will stand the test of time for generations to come.
